My name is Katherine Benjumea. I was born in Washington, DC and my parents are from Colombia. For as long as I can remember I have been involved in early childhood education. I believe I followed my own mother’s footsteps as she herself was a preschool teacher. I have had experience working with children for more than 7 years and recently worked as a lead teacher for an Early Head Start program in Takoma Park, MD. I have very much enjoyed developing this skill throughout the years and would like to continue developing this while creating a challenging, nurturing, and fun learning environment for the children. My passion in life is art and I enjoy expressing myself through it and hope to teach others, especially children, because I believe at this age they learn best through exploration and play. And through art, it opens a door to a creative mind.
I strive to better myself professionally in order to fulfill what is desired of me. I have earned my Child Development Associate from Montgomery College. Ultimately, I would like to continue my education in early childhood and speech pathology. I have loved being a part of the Whole Kids Academy team for the past four years and look forward to having the opportunity to continue to play an active role in the lives of the children, as well as their families.
