After School Enrichment

Welcome to Whole Kids After School, where children from Kindergarten to 5th grade thrive in a Spanish-speaking haven! Whether your child is just beginning or is already fluent, our program caters to all levels of Spanish proficiency.

In our full immersion environment, learning comes naturally through engaging, hands-on activities tailored to each child’s pace and skill level. From art and STEM to cooking and sports, our activities are designed to foster a love of language and culture.

Our dedicated teachers ensure a warm, safe, and nurturing environment where every child receives personalized attention. This supportive setting helps each student stretch their linguistic abilities, regardless of their starting point.

Experience the joy and benefits of bilingualism at Whole Kids After School.

Program Details

The program runs Monday – Friday from school dismissal to 6:00pm. Although children from all elementary schools and homeschooled students are invited to attend, we are pleased to provide complimentary bus transportation from several local elementary schools (Ashburton, Farmland, Garrett Park, Kensington Parkwood, Luxmanor and Wyngate).

Outdoor Time

As soon as children arrive, they head directly to our playgrounds for some much-needed fresh air, exercise and time with friends.

Snack

Following outdoor play, children enter their large, light-filled classroom to enjoy a healthy, nutritious snack.

Spanish Enrichment

Each week, children work towards Spanish learning goals through the use of “I can” statements, such as “I can say where I went” or “I can describe an object”.

Fun Activities

Children will engage in a wide variety of kid-favorite activities including weekly sports and games (Capture the Flag, kickball, ping-pong and board games), art exploration, STEM projects (taking apart an old printer, testing our Raspberry Pi skills, working with Lego Robotics kits or trying a new trick with Makey Makey) and loads of opportunities for hands-on cooking projects!

Free Time

After our activity, children are given free time to explore their interests. They can choose from a fun LEGO wall, building center, woodworking area, coding center, art and makerspace, open-ended play area, cozy reading corner, board games and a ping-pong table.

Homework

A designated table is available for children that want or need some quiet space to complete their homework. Counselors are on hand to answer questions or guide children through a challenge.

Communication

We use Brightwheel which is an app that lets our counselors send you updates and photos in real-time about your child’s day. You’ll also receive important information and more photos in our weekly newsletters every Friday.

MCPS Half Days and In-Service Days

We are open on all Montgomery County Public School half days and in-service days, and we provide an option to join us for camp over spring break. On full days, we typically venture out on a pre-planned field trip, and on half days, we often include an in-house field trip or special guest.

Children who attend Whole Kids After School full-time may join us on all half days and in-service days; families are only expected to cover the field trip fee when applicable. Part-time and drop-in families are welcome to join us on these special days for an added registration cost plus the field trip fee.
